Grace Young’s career has been shaped by chance, passion, and chutzpah. She grew up with a deep appreciation for her family’s traditional Cantonese cooking. As a young girl, she loved watching Julia Child on television and credits her for launching her food career. By her teens, Grace was interning with a food stylist and recipe developer, and in her early twenties, she became Test Kitchen Director for Time Life Books, contributing to over 40 cookbooks. Her award-winning cookbooks celebrate and preserve Chinese culinary traditions, especially wok cookery. Since the pandemic, she has focused her energies on protecting America’s Chinatowns. Photo by Zabrina Deng

Bonnie Benwick worked as a journalist in the Delaware, Maryland Virginia region for four decades, much of it spent at The Washington Post, before retiring in 2019. During her 15-year Food-Section tenure, she wrote the “Dinner in Minutes” column and established its test kitchen. She edited The Washington Post Cookbook: Readers’ Favorite Recipes (2013). As a freelance editor and recipe tester, she is involved in cookbook production and teaches classes. She serves as culinary adviser for the nonprofit Real Food for Kids; as honorary chair of the nonprofit Tzedek DC's Eat Well Do Justice chefs' competition; and co-chairs her synagogue’s monthly cooking project.
